In an effort to highlight the sustainable forest management in tropical forests and strengthen effective cooperation, Mr. Qu Guilin, Executive Director of APFNet, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mr. Liu Shirong, Vice president of Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF), in Pingxiang, Guangxi Province, China, 21 Dec 2013. On behalf of two parties, the MOU that will be implemented by Experimental Center of Tropical Forestry, Chinese Academy of Forestry (ECTF-CAF) lays out the framework for potential cooperation fields, including organizing training workshops on restoration techniques and approaches, establishing field education base for the APFNet scholarship students and developing the best practices on tropical forest management.
Experimental Center of Tropical Forestry is the largest demonstration and experimental base in south China, with largest experimental area, richest diversity of trees and afforestation models, supporting the science researches and demonstrations of tropical and subtropical forests. It has been long dedicated to nursery of rare tree species, conservation of germ plasma resources, and multiple forest management demonstration. Best practice for sustainable management, combined with a set of approaches and techniques that could be documented and broadly shared in the region have been developed by the Center.
