On 19 July 2013, the Dialogue on Forestry in the Context of Eco-Civilization, one of the key sub-forums of the Eco-forum Global Guiyang, opened in Guiyang International Eco-Conference Center, China. Under the theme of forestry and Eco-Civilization, this sub-forum brought together experts and academics to interact on topics such as forestry and green growth, forest and ecosystem services, and forest culture.  Both the theories and practices on the role of forestry in promoting eco-civilization development have been analyzed and summarized, which would shed light onto new ideas and strategies on forestry development in the new context.

Madame Yin Hong, Vice minister of State Forestry Administration (SFA) of China, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Jiu San Society, and Chair of APFNet Interim Steering Committee presided over the opening ceremony and delivered the opening speech.

Forestry, as an indispensable part of Eco-Civilization, is endowed with an important responsibility on protecting ecosystems, implementing ecological restoration projects, ensuring ecological security, promoting Green Development and addressing climate change. In this context, the dialogue on Forestry, Eco-civilization and Sustainable Development was organized under the 2013 Annual Meeting of Eco-Forum Global to share experiences which are highly relevant to the concept of Eco-Civilization and provide valuable lessons that can be learnt by the contemporary society.

Mr. Liu Yuankun, Deputy Governor of Guizhou Provincial Government of China, Mr. Boen Purnama, former Secretary General of Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia, Mr. Ung Sam Ath, Deputy Director General of Forestry Administration, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, Dr. Kim Yong-ha, Deputy Minister of Korea Forest Service, Dato Abd Rahman Bin Abd Rahim, Director General of Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia, and Ms. Aban Marker Kabraj and Director of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Asia Regional Office attended the opening ceremony and addressed the High-Level Segment.

The Dialogue on Forestry in the Context of Eco-Civilization was hosted by SFA and co-organized by APFNet and Guizhou Provincial Forestry Department, supported by IUCN. A total of 110 guests from more than ten economies attended the meeting.
