On 12-17 February 2012, the mid-term evaluation of the APFNet project “Demonstration of Capacity Building of Forest Restoration and Sustainable Forest Management in Vietnam” was carried on the ground. The mid-team evaluation team (hereafter it is referred to “the team”) organized by APFNet visited Phu Tho Sub Forestry Department, Vietnam Academy of Forest Sciences(VAFS) ,Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), listened to the implementation report and budget expenditures report given by the executive agency, checked project documents, equipment installation and operation, communicated with project coordinators, technical experts, community representatives, project steering committee members and attended a workshop on project implementing .
The team paid a field visit to two demonstration sites, talked to the local people and learned their opinions and expectations about the project.
During their visit, the team also exchanged viewpoints with the project overseer--the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on how to better implement this project.
The APFNet project “Demonstration of capacity building of forest restoration and sustainable forest management in Vietnam”, is executed by Phu Tho Sub Forestry Department. The two-year project has a total fund of $585,750, among which $499,750 is funded by APFNet. The project is aimed to identify effective approaches to alleviate poverty, protect environment and improve livelihood.
