APFNet participated in XXIII IUFRO World Congress in Korea

The XXIII International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) World Congress, titled "Forests for the Future, Sustaining Society and the Environment," co-organized by IUFRO and the Korea Forest Research Institute, was convened from 23-38 August, 2010 in Seoul, Korea.

APFNet established a booth to showcase the new regional organization in terms of its establishment in 2008, activities in the past 2 years to raise its visibility in the international community and explore a wider cooperation for Asia and the Pacific. Showy posters and eye-catching promotional video appealed a great number of Congress participants, who got to find out APFNet through new publications on findings of research and outputs of activities. Meanwhile, APFNet staff also visited other exhibitors, including EFI, FAO, APN and IFSA etc for information exchange.

The week-long exhibition drew together 82 international organizations, institutions and local companies as well as NGOs in Korea to display their products and technologies to promote forest management and progress on forest protection.

On the margin of the Congress, APFNet co-organized a side event on Forest Tenure Reform in China, presenting major achievements in the field and constructive discussion. The other co-sponsor included Renmin University of China, the Chinese Academy of Forestry.

Over 2700 participants from international organizations, governments, institutes and the private sector attended the event featured with plenary sessions, technical sessions, poster competition, themed side-events and an international trade& exhibition on forestry held in conjunction with the Congress.
