International Workshop on Forest Monitoring held in Support of Sustainable Forest Management

The International Workshop on Forest Monitoring in support of Sustainable Forest Management in Asia-Pacific Region, sponsored by the APFNet, was held in Beijing from 29-30 April, 2010, organized by the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) in collaboration with the Global Observation of Forest and Land Cover Dynamics (GOFC-GOLD). 35 officers and experts on the forest monitoring from FAO, GOFC-GOLD and 10 countries in the Asia-Pacific region participated in the workshop. Discussion was held on the policies and techniques in terms of promoting sustainable forest management in a dynamic manner. Follow-up training courses were proposed to be developed to improve the capacity and the skills to carry out the forest monitoring activities using the remote sensing technology, with the support from APFNet.

Participating countries in this workshop includes: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, US, Australia and China, shared their experiences.
