Approved Forestry and Wildlife law

30 June 2011, ITTO news - The Congress of the Republic overwhelmingly approved the new draft Forestry and Wildlife law which establishes the legal framework for the conservation, protection and sustainable use of forests in the country.

In emphasizing the importance of this step for the sustainable development of forest resources and wildlife in the country, the president of the Agrarian Commission, Anibal Huerta, said the new draft was prepared after meetings and public consultations between the government and rural and indigenous communities. The latest ruling approved the creation of a new the authority called the Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor), which replaces the current Forest and Wildlife Department.
