Beijing, April 8, 2025 – Mr. Lu De, Executive Director of APFNet, met with Mr. Janesh Kain, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), at the SCO Secretariat. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on regional ecological security and sustainable development cooperation and explored future collaborative directions.

During the meeting, Mr. Lu De commended the SCO’s active role in promoting regional multilateral cooperation. He emphasised that, against the backdrop of increasingly severe global climate challenges, strengthening international cooperation in ecological conservation, desertification prevention, and sustainable development is critical. APFNet is willing to work hand in hand with the SCO to explore new pathways for green growth and contribute to building a regional community with a shared future for man and nature.
Deputy Secretary-General Kain stated that the SCO has always prioritised ecological and environmental protection as one of its key cooperation areas and supports member states in deepening practical collaboration under sustainable development goals. He endorsed Mr. Lu De’s proposals, affirming that the two organisations could enhance cooperation in international conference exchanges, capacity-building training, and forestry demonstration projects, jointly strengthening regional ecological security and improving environmental governance capabilities.
Both sides also expressed a shared desire to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to consolidate and deepen their partnership. To conclude the meeting, they exchanged commemorative gifts to symbolise their commitment to future friendly collaboration.
This meeting laid a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two organisations in regional ecological security and sustainable development, demonstrating their joint resolve to address global environmental challenges.
