The Second Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Forestry in Greater Central Asia was held in Kyrgyzstan
The Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Forestry in Greater Central Asia is a regional high-level policy forum supported by the Asia-Pacific Forest Organization. Zhao Shucon, Chairman of the APFNet, pointed out at the meeting that APFNet as a regional organization, can play a unique role in promoting regional cooperation. Firstly, coordinate relevant departments and strengthen dialogue. Wildlife conservation and desertification control are closely related to other sectoral policies such as agriculture, tourism, and hunting. The second is to coordinate disaster prevention. People and animals in Greater Central Asia face many disasters, such as forest fires, animal diseases, etc., thses needed to be coordinated and responded together. The third is to promote experience research results sharing, especially for specific species or areas, such as snow leopard protection which is common concern to the region. The fourth is the investigation and monitoring of coordinated resources. In the process of investigation and monitoring, a list of priority areas for regional protection can be listed to promote cooperation.
This meeting was organized by the State Agency on Environment Protection and Forestry of the Kyrgyz Republic, it was the second high-level ministerial forum held in the Greater Central Asia region following the first Ministerial Conference held in Astana in 2016.
