9 July 2014, Peruthisweek news - The United Nations collaborative initiative on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD +) in developing countries will bring together partner countries representatives and international experts.

Likewise, the 12th meeting, which began on Monday July 7 and will wind up today, will provide the platform for the exchange of experiences and decision-making process for future proposals on a global scale.

The program, a joint action of the three Participating UN Organizations (FAO, UNDP and UNEP), supports nationally-led REDD+ processes and promotes the informed and meaningful involvement of all stakeholders, including Indigenous Peoples and other forest-dependent communities, in national and international REDD+ implementation.

It should be noted that Peru has the experience of a project begun by UNDP in 2012 "Strengthening capacities of Indigenous People for their informed participation in the design and implementation of the REDD+ mechanism in Peru."

This project provided technical support to local Peruvian Amazonian indigenous organizations, and was aimed at encouraging the consultation and participation process of indigenous communities in the REDD+ preparation proposal.

The project was co-implemented by the Ministry of Environment and UNDP with active support from indigenous national organizations Inter-ethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle (AIDESEP) and Amazonian National Confederation in Peru (CONAP).

The UN-REDD Program currently supports 53 partner countries across Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean.

To-date, the UN-REDD Programme's Policy Board has approved a total of US$67.8 million for National Programmes in 18 partner countries. These funds support the development and implementation of National REDD+ Strategies.
