Building continuity and knowledge integration in forestry strategic planning -- APFNet and Asia-Pacific economies initiate the Forestry Planning Network

Bangkok, 19 Jan 2017 - Forestry strategic planning is an ongoing process, not a one-time exercise. It must be people-focused, learning-centered, and adaptive to external changes to be considered strategic.

Mr. Phouthone Sophathilath, Deputy Director of Planning and Cooperation of the Lao Department of Forestry, highlighted that forestry planning has become increasingly difficult given that the scope of planning has become more complex over time.

Mr. Zhao Shucong, Chair of the APFNet Board met with the Minister of Myanmar Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Conservation (MONREC)

On 22 January 2017, Mr. Zhao Shucong, Chair of the APFNet Board of Directors, met with Mr. Ohn Winn, Myanmar Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Conservation at APFNet Secretariat Office in Beijing. Mr. Ohn Winn expressed his appreciation for APFNet’s support to Myanmar on forest rehabilitation and development, and wished to continue and strengthen the cooperation with APFNet in the areas of sustainable forest management and capacity building.

APFNet supports to develop the standing-tree carbon equations to improve the accuracy of forest-cover carbon stock estimates in Thailand

On December 13th 2016, an Inception Workshop of APFNet funded Project “To demonstrate the development and application of standing-tree carbon equations to improve the accuracy of forest-cover carbon stock estimates in Thailand” [2015P6-THA] was held in Bangkok, Thailand, jointly witnessed by representatives from Royal Forestry Department and Kasetsart University.

APFNet’s new year reception held in Beijing

APFNet held its 2017 New Year Reception in Kunlun Hotel, Beijing on 15 December 2016. Representatives from the embassies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Forestry Administration, All-China Women's Federation, APFNet’s member economies, project appraisal panel, APFNet Fund’s members and partner enterprises and Beijing branch offices of international organizations, as well as students and professors of APFNet’s scholarship programme from Beijing Forestry University were invited.

Mr Qu Guilin, Executive Director of APFNet, opened the reception by reviewing the Secretariat’s work in 2016 and expressed his appreciations to all partners who have helped and supported APFNet during the year. Mr Zhao Shucong, Chair of the APFNet Board of Directors, Mr Peng Youdong, Vice-minister of the State Forestry Administration, and Peruvian Ambassador to Beijing Mr Juan Carlos Capuñay joined the reception and made opening remarks.
