Russian forestry industry increases GDP contribution

6 May 2015, HD FestForest news - The Russian forestry industry contributed an extra 0.3 per cent to the country's total gross domestic product (GDP) in 2014 in comparison to 2013, new figures reveal. This is according to data from WhatWood, which shows that the sector's share in Russia's GDP rose to 1.62 per cent last year - its highest level in four years.

Finland's wood consumption remains stable

24 April 2015, HD FestForest news - Wood consumption remained at stable level in Finland last year, new statistics have revealed. According to the Natural Resources Institute of Finland, the nation's forestry industry consumed a total of 63.9 million cubic metres of wood in 2014. This is unchanged when compared to the year before, but is up by six per cent on the five-year average, suggesting demand is at a healthy level.

Boost for Lithuanian industrial production

23 April 2015, HD FestForest news - Industrial production in Lithuania grew in March, new figures have revealed. According to Statistics Lithuania, an increase of 4.3 per cent was recorded in the month compared to February, taking total industrial production to €1.59 billion.

Roundwood trade decreases in Finland

20 April 2015, HD FestForest news - The forestry industry in Finland looks set to experience a decline with regard to the production and trading of roundwood throughout 2015. Figures compiled by the National Resources Institute Finland show that the use of industrial timber in Finland has remained fairly constant over the past few years, and officials expect this to be the case throughout 2016 as well. Consumption of this type of wood has decreased slightly in comparison to 2007, but overall appears to be performing steadily.

Latvian veneer log prices grow

9 April 2015, HD FestForest news - The price of category A Latvian veneer logs has increased significantly, new research shows. Figures released by the Central Statistical Bureau, and reported by Baltic Course, reveal that during the second half of 2014 the typical cost of the product was up 13 per cent compared to the first six months of the year. On average, category A veneer logs cost €86.56 per cubic metre during this period.

Belarus loaned $40m for forestry development

7 April 2015, HD FestForest news - The World Bank is to provide a $40.71 million (€37 million) loan for the development of forestry in Belarus. This funding will be used to improve the effectiveness of forest breeding, recreation and planting in the nation, as well as ensuring more logging residue is utilised, BelTA reports.
