Background

APFNet celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2013, a year of reviewing and planning. By reviewing the implementation of the 2011-2015 APFNet Strategic Plan at the last meeting, the APFNet gathered initial thoughts for its next Strategic Plan. By planning for the future, APFNet launched the nomination process for its Initial Board and drafted the plan for establishing the Council, which are important steps towards translating the APFNet Operational Framework into reality. All of the progress is indispensable from the effort of every economy via its focal points.

APFNet focal points from regional economies and international / regional organizations played important role in the development of APFNet during its first five-year by sharing information, coordinating and facilitating with APFNet’s activities and projects. To better meet the forestry development needs of the region, and in accordance with the Working Mechanism, the Fifth Annual Meeting of the APFNet
Focal Points, under the auspices of the Royal Forest Department of Thailand, will be held to better carry out the activities in 2014, and to provide its support and foresighted inputs to APFNet’s next five-year development.

Objectives of the meeting

  • Strengthen the interaction among the APFNet secretariat and regional economies and international / regional organization;
  • Report on the progress of APFNet’s work in 2013 and plan for 2014;
  • Discuss on the draft plan of combining the Focal Points meeting and Interim Steering Committe into the APFNet Council;
  • Discuss on the draft framework of APFNet Strategic Plan of 2016-2020;
  • Decide on the organization of the next meeting.

Provisional agenda

Chair: Thailand; Co-chair: the Philippines

  • Adopting the agenda;
  • Reporting on the progress of APFNet’s work in 2013 and plan for 2014 by the Executive Director and deliberating the report;
  • Delivering presentations on selected demonstration projects by focal points / representatives from regional economies;
  • Introducing the draft framework of the Strategic Plan of 2016-2020 for discussion;
  • Discussing the draft plan of establishing the APFNet Council;
  • Other matters related;
  • Deciding the organization of the next meeting.

Participants

Focal points and representatives from partner organizations will be invited to the meeting; other related parties who are interested in joining APFNet can also be invited upon request.

Funding mechanism

Representatives are encouraged to cover their expenses of attending the meeting; while if self-funding is difficult, one participant from a developing economy are eligible to apply for funding from the APFNet Secretariat. The funding includes a return economy class airfare to Chiang Mai, Thailand, transfers from the airport to the hotel and accommodation during the meeting, as well as a certain amount of per diem according to APFNet financial policy.

  1. 2013 work report and 2014 work plan;
  2. Draft framework of the APFNet Strategic Plan 2016-2020;
  3. Draft plan of establishing APFNet Council.
