Location:

Beijing, China

Duration:

2 June 2011

Background

Since its launch in 2008, APFNet has made headway in contributing to the sustainable management of forests across the Asia‐Pacific region, which is largely ascribed to the support and assistance from its focal points representing regional economies as well as international and regional organizations.

At the inaugural meeting of the APFNet Focal Points held during 23‐24 June 2010 in Beijing, China, participants agreed to establish a regular working mechanism to better carry out APFNet activities in the region and enable effective information exchange concerning forestry sector issues, and outlined next steps in the development of the strategic direction of APFNet. The Working Mechanism of APFNet Focal Points is one of the building blocks to the governance and effective operation of APFNet, mainly through providing assistance in the implementation of APFNet’s activities at the local level and exploring opportunities for potential cooperation with partners.
